Hi everybody,
I'm a little late doing introductions, but my name is Benjamin Van Dyne. I
work as the Lead Organizer of BUILD, a congregation-based community
organization in Lexington, KY. I long considered ordained ministry as a
Universalist, but I have a hard time imagining any other sort of ministry
being as exciting and interesting as this is, so I'll stay an organizer for
a while.
My interest in church-planting grows out of a desire for better models of
ministry, particularly for the progressive church. Being raised in Unitarian
Universalist churches that are not (necessarily) bound by theological
commonality, the relational model of organizing appeals to me as uniquely
religious model for community-building that manages to build community,
respect the individual, and connect with our deeper selves all at once. I
may get a chance to say more about that some other time, because I know it
sounds vague.
I probably will be a little sporadic in paying attention to this list, as
we're in the middle of an affordable housing campaign that is heating up
some, but I'll do my best.
And, Ron, my mother was from just outside Bartlesville. Small world.
Nice to meet all of you.
Benjamin
